Mmmm, hi my name is…

It is that first blog entry. That feeling of standing up in front of an audience and wondering what do I say next. The silence from the readers, and me wondering if my fly is open or in this case, is that comma in the right place.
Well, I guess I can begin with Welcome.
Thank you for visiting my blog, and I hope you come back .
There will be prizes for those most frequent visitors, ok I am kidding but please do head on back and often
This will be a work in progress, as I feel my way into the immediacy of 21 century online media. A place away from the baying of news editors demanding on deadline copy. Maybe a place to reflect on stories, after the rush of deadline, to add a little perspective, throw in those bits and pieces that didn’t make it into the paper.
Here will be a place for those stories too long to be crammed into twitter, there will be the personal stuff too. Entries about those things that take my fancy fossils, archaeology and those cool stories, that are so abundant in this wonderful land.
Perhaps think of this blog as Smillie’s garage, a place where I can tinker with words and stories, and see what comes out and just maybe you will like it too.
So come back soon and oh yes tell your friends.
