Zoo trot

A lion roars, and just maybe the beast makes some of those runners pump their legs a little faster.

This lion resides in the middle of Joburg, but it is safely tucked behind some high walls and moat.

All it can do is watch the runners pass and dream of what ifs. Once a month at the Johannesburg zoo, it is the Zoo Trot. Runners can complete two laps around the zoo, past those lions, the elephants, the cleaner inside the buffalo enclosure, bravely going about his work and then the crocodiles. I did the two laps, and felt it. A month of no running as taken a toll on my fitness. But I made it, all 9,5 kilometres of it. Next time I promise, I will be fitter.

And this my friends has to be the quote of the day. A father standing at the Barbary sheep enclosure turns to his young son. “No my boy, that is not a lion that is a buck.”
