Friend request

A jailbird is always on a lookout for a new friend in prison.

And Brett Savage is no different.

Brett Savage’s long walk

Brett is staring at some serious time.

This week a Bali judge sentenced him to a life in prison, for trying to smuggle 3 kilograms of tik into the Indonesian island.

A life of depravation and confinement awaits as he is dropped into a scene from Midnight Express, but with a far eastern slant.

Yesterday a colleague of mine came across Brett’s facebook profile. Thinking that perhaps some one was looking after Brett’s webpage while he was away, my colleague fired off a friend request.

Maybe that person could get a message through to Brett.

Moments later the request was accepted.

The colleague sent a private message. He said he was looking for Brett.

This was Brett came the reply. It happened that he had a cellphone in prison, bought from money send from family in South Africa.

He didn’t want to write about conditions in prison, maybe later.

And there is another way to get hold of Brett in prison, he said he can be found on Black Berry Messenger.
